What you (and the people around you) get out of CNG Car Conversion
It looks like cold fusion and the ability to burn water for energy are still a few years away, but CNG is a convenient and affordable alternative in today's society. Ideally we could all use wind, solar, and hydrogen for electricity. Of all the alternative fuels it seems as though Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is the most practical... especially when it comes to powering your car or truck.
Before we dive in too far, let's get the most important fact in the open: In almost every region of the United States you can find CNG available for around 25-35% the cost of gasoline! CNNMoney.com recently reported that the average household spends $368 per month on gasoline. What could you do with another $276 in your pocket every month? See how much CNG prices are in your area.
Natural Gas gets more popular as energy prices increase. Natural Gas is found underground and can be liquified or compressed (hence the acronym CNG). Natural gas is one of America's greatest resources. While reserves of crude oil and other resources are diminishing, new drilling technologies and techniques are allowing us to recover natural gas in the huge shale deposits in Utah, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Appalachia... vastly expanding our nation's natural gas reserves. These reserves could easily last the US for decades. By utilizing more of these domestic deposits the US can break its reliance on foreign oil and we will most likely see all energy prices drop. This means cheaper prices at the pump, a smaller home electric bill, and more cash in your pocket.
Natural gas is much cleaner than coal, diesel, or gasoline. In fact, natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel and a highly efficient form of energy. The U.S. Energy Information Administration said that natural gas is twice as clean as coal. Natural gas has a lower carbon content and fewer impurities than other fuels, and produces less sulfur dioxide (a primary cause of acid rain) and other pollutants. Natural gas produces 22 to 29 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than diesel- or gasoline-powered vehicles, respectively.
As a "clean burning" alternative fuel, CNG will result in less maintenance on some of the most expensive parts of your car. The CNG car conversion kit will not damage your engine, but it will keep it cleaner,
resulting in real dollars saved for you. Converting to CNG will only increase your chances of passing a state emissions test. Each state is different so please contact your local regulators to be sure. Please search our forum in case our members have recent information to help you, but as of today you shouldnt have any problem getting approval in any state except California. California requires CARB (California Air Research Board) Certification of all CNG car conversion kits. It has been recently passed by legislation and is making life difficult for CNG car owners.
